For an prospective project we decided to build a handy little test platform. The reason for that was, that neither the interaction principles nor the technology was set yet but we wanted to test different approaches to give the client a comprehensible recommendation on how to proceed. Our prototype can visualize both touch and softkey interaction in combination with a web application being shown on the final display specifications. Now we have the opportunity to upload web technology prototypes onto our device and have a realistic experience in terms of ergonomics, interaction and tangibility.
We highly recommend this approach in the early stages of an embedded software design process because it is very cost and time efficient. It gives the user a very good notion of the final product and prevents conceptual mistakes from happening in the most early and therefore most managable phase of a project.
